Just a couple of last minute items to make your day stress free.

The weather looks good for tomorrow and the field is in very good shape. Please remember to wear shoes that will not sink into the grass field.

Mrs. Leavitt and Mr. Roy will be in the school to answer any of your questions.

When you enter the building make sure you get a mask. The school will provide you with one. There will also be hand sanitizer located around the school and stage.

There are seven postings around the school that detail the walking route, seating plan, and graduation program. Please review these postings.

During the processional graduates will be walking, not marching, in front of all the parked cars, turning at mid-field, and then proceeding to the stage and seating. During the recessional graduates will be taking the same route to exit the field. We will go over this tomorrow. I will have cones on the field to guide you.

When on the stage you may take off your mask for photos. If you are a speaker you may take your mask off as well.

The school will distribute the shares of class funds to each student after graduation. In addition, the school will be providing you with a gift certificate to Pat's Pizza. You will need to go back into the school after graduation to get it.

I'm looking forward to this celebration. See you then!

    School Closure Letter to Parents

    March 16, 2020

Machias Schools have made the decision to close school until March 27.  This presents a challenge to continuing the education of our students.  To meet this challenge a strong partnership between school and home must occur.

Today, teachers and staff worked on developing a plan for continued learning.  Some teachers will be sending assignments home via the US Postal Service, some using email, and others using distance learning platforms like Google Classroom.  Each teacher will contact your student to notify them of their mode of delivery.

A crucial part of communicating with students remotely is technology.  Students will need a way to receive their assignments.  The school will use the student’s school issued email.  I will have a school representative call each parent on Tuesday to make sure you have your student’s user name and password, ask about Internet access, and arrange a time for you to pick up items from the school if necessary.

It will be the student’s responsibility to check for assignments, complete them, and return them to their teacher.  Parents should communicate with their students the importance of doing so.  Students who do not complete assignments during the closure will be required to make them up when the school reopens.

If your student is having difficulties receiving, completing, or submitting assignments please contact the school immediately.  If your student becomes stressed or anxious about school or the health crisis, please call the school for assistance.  We have guidance counselors and staff available to talk with students.  We want to help your student be successful during this difficult time.

During the closure parents of Machias Schools students may pick up lunches in the RMG lobby between 10:00 and 12:00, Monday through Friday, beginning on March 17.  Breakfast for the following morning will be included with each lunch.  No need sign up, just show up!  Individuals other than staff members will not be allowed past the lobby.   Thank you to Machias Schools Food Services crew and additional volunteers for facilitating this valuable service to our community.

Machias Memorial High School is committed to educating our students during this closure. By working together we can make sure our students have a continued and meaningful education.

Please contact me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions.  I can be reached at the above email or at 207-263-4999.  Contact me anytime.
